Girls’ Vision for the Future

The International Day of the Girl Child, celebrated on October 11, brought attention to the challenges girls face and promoted girls’ empowerment around the world. This year’s theme was “Girls’ vision for the future,” conveying a balance between the need for immediate action and persistent hope driven by the power of girls’ voices and vision for the future.

At WANDA, we see this delicate balance play out in how our single mothers show up to better themselves and their families in our program. Not only are these women facing the immediate challenges of finding affordable housing, securing stable employment, and the complexities of raising a child, but through our program, they are able to create a sustainable path for forward financial progress. We recognize that breaking the cycle of poverty requires various supports, tangible skills, resources, self-investment, and perseverance through a growth mindset. Through our confidence-success cycle, where confidence drives action, action leads to success, and success creates confidence, WANDA creates positive forward momentum that sets a precedent for the next generation.

As we reflect on the importance of uplifting women and girls, we are reminded of the strength, power, and courage our moms drum up to face these challenges head-on. In honor of the day, we invite you to give to the women we support by investing in our vision for a future in which disadvantaged single mothers are financially self-sufficient and have equitable access to resources that continue to improve their lives and those of their children.
