On August 13th, the WANDA community of family, friends and founders gathered together in person for the first time in two years. We heard from Giselle Hale, Mayor of Redwood City, share stories about her struggles with poverty growing up and how her perseverance inspired her career in community service. In addition to celebrating WANDA’s graduates, we celebrated the accomplishments of our MidPen partnership cohort. Also in attendance were two of WANDA’s founders, Susan Konores and Luba Kipnis, along with longtime WANDA volunteer and class instructor Barbara Tyler and alumna Charisse Fontes. Delicious goodies were provided by Ada’s Cafe, a non-profit corporation dedicated to hiring, training and empowering our employees with disabilities. Project Glimmer and the San Francisco 49ers provided special gifts. We look forward to continuing to ease out of the pandemic and see more of the beautiful, empowered faces of our single mother community in person at WANDA events.
